What if it isn’t dyslexia?
I take detailed background information before agreeing to an assessment, usually this will involve a pre-booking phone call as well as paperwork for parents and school to complete. By taking detailed information I hope to be able to identify if the assessment will really be of benefit. Despite this, sometimes once the assessment has happened it is clear that the child isn’t dyslexic, so what happens next?
1) You still get a detailed report. If someone has been referred for a dyslexia assessment, there are usually areas of need, even if it isn’t dyslexia, so you still get a report with lots of detailed recommendations.
2) If I suspect that something else is causing difficulties then I will include a referral letter. This could be for:
Developmental Language Disorder
ADHD
Optometrist
Neurological Assessment
something else
3) Most of the time the onward referral will need to come from the school, I will talk all of this through for you in a free feedback phonecall.
